Product detail

Searching for Sustenance, like most Shona Stone Sculpture, tells an interesting story. A bird sits upon an egg, waiting for sustenance to be brought by it's partner. This sculpture conveys the story of parental responsibility and care, as well as sharing the burden of raising offspring. Beautifully detailed, this Limited Edition, one-of-a-kind sculpture was created in cobalt stone by renowned Shona Stone artist, Aleck Jacob Joramu. Aleck started sculpting in 1992, during weekends and after school. He assisted a prominent artist, Jack Jonasi, who inspired Aleck's interest in sculpting. In 1997, Aleck went to Tengenenge with some of his sculptures, to begin his career as a solo artist. Aleck's art is based on the environment. His art is expressed in birds, flowers and abstract sculpture. Aleck mines for his own cobalt and opal stone. Currently Aleck is working at the Chitungwiza Arts Centre. His sculpture is sold worldwide. We're proud to say that Aleck was nominated as one of the three best Chiweshe artists by the National Arts Gallery of Zimbabwe. This sculpture is suited to interior or exterior home or office decor. Unique, carved from beautifully grained cobalt stone, mined by the artist, this sculpture is simply superb. 10.62" Long 4.33" Wide 15.74" High Cobalt stone is a purple serpentinite and is thought to enhance spiritual ascension, acceptance, confidence and respect. Held by the Shona to be a stone of wisdom it is believed to incorporate the old and the new to make the best of both worlds.
