Makonde carvers are unmatched in their craftsmanship and abstract characterizations alike. The Makonde carvings are known for their picturizations of mischievous spirits from Makonde folklore that have been passed down, through the ages. The hand carved Makonde abstract depicts a mother and child, who are on their way back home, after fetching water from a nearby pond. The fluid-like pattern, right from the mother and son figurines, to the water gourd on her head, have been achieved through careful mastery, under the aid of high density African Blackwood, that gives it its signature shimmery finish. The piece can be placed atop antique bookshelves or mantlepieces, to give it an interesting edge.
